The iEmwin Pool Project is a collaboration to maintain and monitor a virtual cluster (pool) of Emwin Byte Blaster servers, which are identified in a systematic fashion by a FQDN rather than an IP, with a corresponding administrative contact email as well as local information that may be be relevant for the overall administration of the system.
Traditionally, the NWS EMWIN Byte Blaster servers have been identified only by their IP. This scheme gives no indication of the servers location, what organization or person is responsible for it, and whom to contact in case of problems.
The iEmwin Pool Project is an effort to implement a scheme in which the EMWIN Byte Blaster servers are identified by a name (a FQDN in network parlance) rather than an IP. Associated with the FQDN, each server should have a corresponding Administrative contact email, as well as local information which may be be relevant for the overall administration of the system, such as the server's geographic location and the name of the responsible organization or owner.
The idea is that Byte Blaster servers operate under names of the form
n.pool.iemwin.netwhere n is an integer number, for example:
1.pool.iemwin.net
2.pool.iemwin.net
As a by product, all such servers can be monitored by the Npemwin built-in web server using a url such as
http://1.pool.iemwin.net:8016
